On January 29th and 30th 2012, His Majesty King Mihai I paid an official two-day visit to His Most Eminent Highness Fra' Matthew Festing, Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta.
His Majesty King Mihai I was invited to an official lunch at the Magistral Palace in Rome in the honour of His Majesty by His Most Eminent Highness Fra' Matthew Festing.
Alongside His Majesty the King and the Sovereign of the Order there were present members of the Royal Families of Austria, Italy and Germany. King Mihai I was accompanied by Andrew Popper, Honorific Chief of His Majesty's House.
On behalf of Sovereign Military Order of Malta there were present the Grand Commander, His Excellency Fra' Carlo d'Ippolito from Santippolito, the Grand Chancellor, Jean Pierre Mazery, the Vice President of the Government Council, Marquis Fausto Solaro del Borgo.
His Majesty discussed with the Grand Master about the charitable activities which have been carried out in Romania. There was a reminder of the fact that, in 2012, we celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations between the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and our country. The Grand Master highlighted the role of the Royal Family of Romania and the historic relations with the Order of Malta.
His Majesty offered the Grand Master the jubiliary medal and a leather box for correspondence made by the artist Dan Coma.
The Grand Master offered His Majesty the volume "The Order of Malta" bound in leather and inscribed.
His Majesty King Mihai I also attended a dinner offered by His Excellency, Mr. Bogdan Tătaru-Cazaban, Ambassador of Romania to the Holy See. Among other distinguished guests: His Excellency Mr. Victor Răzvan Rusu, the Romanian ambassador in Rome, and other public personalities from the capital of Italy.
